Previous Day High/Low and Previous Week High/Low (PDH, PDL, PWH, PWL)
Four levels appear on almost every ICT-style gold chart:
- PDH – Previous Day High (buy-side liquidity)
- PDL – Previous Day Low (sell-side liquidity)
- PWH – Previous Week High
- PWL – Previous Week Low
What is "a day" in forex?
The forex trading day rolls over at 17:00 New York time, not at midnight. BlessedForex builds daily candles from that rollover using the real America/New_York timezone, so daylight saving is handled automatically. Weekly candles start with the Sunday-evening open.
Why these levels matter
They are obvious, so orders gather around them, and they are neutral reference points that do not depend on a particular indicator. A sweep of PDH or PDL early in London or New York is a classic starting point for an idea — see liquidity sweeps.
Using them in practice
- Bias check. Above the previous day's high and holding? Below the previous low? See higher-timeframe bias.
- Targets. An untouched PDH or PWH is a natural target for a long; an untouched PDL or PWL for a short.
- Status. Once traded through, a level is swept and stops being a target. BlessedForex fades swept levels on the dashboard.
Weekly levels
PWH and PWL are rarer and carry more weight. A sweep of the previous week's low during a high-impact session can start a larger move, though it also happens less often.
Caution
Around high-impact news, price can slice through every level in seconds. Levels help you frame a trade; they do not replace risk limits. Read more about what moves gold and news risk.
Questions & answers
Why does the forex day end at 17:00 New York time?
It is the widely used market convention: the New York close marks the end of the global trading day, after which liquidity is thin until Asia opens.
Does a swept PDH stop being useful?
It stops acting as a resting target because the orders were triggered, but it can remain a reference for structure and later reactions.
Are weekly levels stronger than daily levels?
They usually attract bigger reactions because more traders watch them and they mark a larger range, but they are touched less often.
What time is the rollover in Nairobi?
It moves with US daylight saving: 00:00 East Africa Time during US summer time and 01:00 during winter time.
